The curse of the fourth album

So it seems we today have yet another victim of the curse of the fourth album – Editors. After their first three brilliant albums, this fourth one seems as if it’s just been thrown together. What is it with fourth albums?

Blur’s fourth album – The Great Escape – was a terrible carbon copy of Parklife; The Strokes reunited for a fourth album, which didn’t live up to the expectations of the great first three; Arctic Monkeys painted themselves further into their corner with their fourth one; Noel Gallagher said that he had to force himself to write the songs for Oasis fourth album; Bloc Party even called their failure of a fourth album Four, seemingly to show that “we know this is crap, but it’s, you know, our fourth album. The list is endless.
