7 billion

I find it surprising that even in this age of large numbers, where we bounce around trillions without any problem, that there is still less debate about the population hitting 7 billion. And 9 billion in 2050. Even if the curve is flattening out, the effect of the current boom will still have devastating effects on the environment and food supplies. Innovation is sorely needed in the area of food production.
